Gyula Maár (1934, Budapest) He graduated in Hungarian literature and linguistics and history from the ELTE University. He worked as a teacher for a short while, then wrote articles and essays as a film critic. For two years he was the editor of the Magvetô Publishing House. He was thirty when he was admitted to the Academy of Performing Arts, where he graduated in 1968. Meanwhile he wrote a film-scripts with Péter Zimre, a selection of which was published by the Szépirodalmi Publishing House under the title, Journey with a Grudge . He wrote opera librettos and adapted the novel, Farewell, My Lovely by Józsi Jenô Tersánszky on stage. He made his first short films and his first feature film, Press with the Béla Balázs Studio. He works for the Hungarian National Television regularly. He directed in Hungarian theatres, too and once in the State Opera House (Ferenc Erkel: László Hunyadi ).
